The story of Olivia
Olivia, a young lady finished college about 2 years ago and was lucky enough to get employed almost immediately but had a problem with indebtedness.
She began working in a prestigious organization, the pay was good, she got an apartment and a car. She loved taking very good care of herself.
There was one problem Olivia had. Despite her pay being good, before the end of each month, she would become broke which will necessitate her borrowing from other people. This continued for a long period. One day, someone who would always help her with her bills asked where all her money was going to. This statement got her embarrassed and made her pay more attention to how she spends money.
A number of people have no rule/ structure regarding how they spend their money. They have no priorities neither do they cut their coat according to their sizes. While God-given wealth has been designed to last, devil given/ ill-gotten wealth has been designed to be wasted and may sometimes claim the lives of their victims.
Some Bible passages
God is very careful to release His wealth to us because He hates waste. Only those who are found faithful and obey His rules will enjoy kingdom wealth. Remember the silver and gold is His( Haggai 2: 8- 10 ) and He is the one that gives us the power to get wealth (Deuteronomy 8: 18). He also removes kings and sets up kings (Daniel 2: 21).
Those that end up in indebtedness will find out that they have not cut their coat according to their size neither have they planned appropriately. Borrowing is not a sin but the fact that the borrower is a slave to the lender is not a wonderful thing (Proverbs 22: 7). We have been told that we will lend to nations but this will only be fulfilled if we play by the rules and are patient.
One mistake people do is pitying themselves for borrowing or indebtedness. The beginning of self-pity is the beginning of one’s downfall. I have written a post on self-pity, please find time to read it here.
People might tell you that it is impossible to borrow. Well, that is a lie from the pit of hell. Just as people go about telling others that it’s impossible for them to get healed or sickness and disease is a result of punishment from God, others believe it’s impossible to borrow. You are what you believe and what you believe is what you attract.
Important points regarding indebtedness
Tithing: when it comes to our finances, the promises of God in this area is actually a covenant. The covenant of seedtime and harvest, sowing and reaping. We’ve been commanded to bring out tithes and offerings into the storehouse. The storehouse is the house of God and not an orphanage or somewhere else.
The case of tithing is a major issue in the body of Christ. Even some pastors who preach on tithing don’t tithe. No amount of prayer and fasting can deliver one from poverty if one is not a tither. It is God that gives us power to get wealth, when you disobey His instructions, don’t expect anything from Him. Look for the church where you are being blessed and give your tithe there rather than being forced to give your tithe in a church where money is the main sermon.
Never yield to any excuse of the devil for not paying your tithe. It’s a spiritual transaction even though you can see it physically. Not being a tither gives room for the enemy to take charge of one’s finances because the devourer will not be rebuked (Malachi 3: 11).
Other points
Offerings: our offerings are also important. When we go to the house of God, we shouldn’t go empty-handed. Benefits of tithing, giving you offerings, helping the needy and giving to the course of the kingdom include divine protection, no more lack or indebtedness, rain of divine ideas that can turn one into an employer of labour and many more…
Discipline: Set your priorities, have plans regarding your salary monthly, cut your coat according to your size, remember to save for the future.
My father in the faith will say, life is in stages and men are in sizes. Start taking responsibility for the little you have now then you will see your income growing.
