When God favours you, the difference is clear.
People have varying opinions about money and being wealthy. Years back, poverty was associated with holiness. They believe that in order to see God or make it to Heaven one would need to be poor. Some would quote Matthew 19: 24 to justify their argument. It was a normal thing for churches to be poor but thank God for the light that has broken forth. Now, churches not only have primary and secondary schools but also universities.
As children of God, we are to set examples for others by letting our light shine so that people will see what God is doing in our lives thereby leading many to Christ. Nowadays, people believe that the “church business” is the real deal. They call themselves into ministry (may God help us).
Being wealthy should not just be restricted to physical nature (money) but also the spiritual side of it. It is God’s will that we prosper even as our soul prospereth.
Explaining with the Word of God
In this post, I will write briefly on the physical aspect of wealth. 1 Timothy 6: 10 says, “for the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with much grief”. Ecc. 10: 19 tells us that money answereth all things. But if money answereth all things, then why do people who love money go through grief as stated in 1 Timothy 6: 10?
Those who love money have automatically made it their master. Matthew 6: 24 says that “no one can be a slave to two masters, you will either hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money”. Some people will say “no, money is not my master even though I love it”.
Whatever one cherishes or places first in one’s life, the person becomes a servant to it. God calls His people servants (in the Bible) because they placed God as number 1 in their lives.
To know if money has become your master or not, let me ask some questions.
Does not having money affect your mood, the way you relate with others? Do you feel sad when money is finished and happy when you have money? Can people around you predict whether you have money or not without you telling them?
