Working on your weakness
This is an important step in life. As humans, we have our weaknesses and strengths, nobody is born perfect. Some people know what their weaknesses are and try to work on them while others ignore it, believing that it will disappear.
Well, the first and important thing to do in order to get better in aspects you are weak in is acknowledging you have a weakness and also taking effective steps to work on it.
The effort needed is a conscious one. I have heard people say something like, “I can not do anything about it, that is just who I am.” Well, if that attitude or weakness is something negative and you don’t like it then you can do something about it.
You don’t need to announce to everyone that you are trying to improve, just encourage yourself and keep working on it little by little.
It could be really painful when someone points out your weakness which could be a constructive or destructive form of criticism. However, how you react matters. How do you react when someone publicly embarrasses you because of something you did or said that was inappropriate?
At this point, it is important to know that human beings differ. A Sanguine will react differently to a Choleric person and so will the Phlegmatic and Melancholy.
What to do
Regardless of what your type is, pick a reasonable lesson from that embarrassment. Discard the irrelevant ones. This might be hard in the beginning but with time, as you keep practicing, it will get better. If the criticism is true ( either constructive or destructive), there is no need getting angry about it. The good news is, you can be way better if you work on it.
Sometimes it’s good to stay around critics who are sincere (not the ones that want to pull you down). They tell you the honest truth that others wouldn’t want to do in order not to hurt your feeling. The truth is knowing these things and working hard towards it makes you a better person.
On the other hand, there are people who don’t have your best interest at heart. A lot of the things they say about you is not true. In dealing with these kinds of people, don’t pay any attention to what they have to say and you can be polite about that.
It is also important to try to avoid them because negative energy can easily influence a positive attitude if care is not taken.
It is important to know the kind of person criticizing you because some of them are not better than you, they only want to bring you down.
In such cases their criticism is irrelevant. You can just roll it up and throw it inside the garbage bin. Sometimes, we actually know that what is being said is the truth and in times like that, it is important to swallow your pride and take time to work on it.
Some examples
It is very possible to develop your strength in any area of weakness once you put it out there and work on it. If you are the kind of person that does not like public speaking, put yourself out there, try engaging in functions, social gatherings, offer to speak.
If you are short-tempered work on it, whenever someone gets you angry don’t reply, move away for that period of time, get some fresh air, calm down then you’ll have a better frame of mind to give the person a sincere reply.
Some individuals who are patient now were not like that, a number of them had to work on themselves to develop that wonderful trait.
Anger causes destruction and death which could have been avoided. Be the mature one, walk away then return when the atmosphere is conducive.
No one is perfect, most of us are a work in progress but what distinguishes us from others is that we at least try to work on ourselves and in most cases achieve very good results.
Final note
There are so many things people believe are not possible but have not even tried to see if it is true. Sitting in a place and hoping for something without working towards it will yield no result.
Don’t be offended about what people say about you, in fact, you should be concerned if people are not saying something about you because it is inevitable. Some people try to do things to please others but one thing you should know is that you cannot please everybody.
No matter the good work you’ve done, people will still complain so keep doing good, work on yourself, be happy with yourself and expect your reward from God, not from any man.
